🎼. Dum ti dum ti dum ti dum ...
Lilian: Brian, how are you, daahling ? How do you feel about finding yourself on the moral high ground after all these years ?
Brian: I have no idea what you are talking about, Lilian.
Lilian: That’s the problem, daahling , you have a total lack of self-awareness. I’m talking about Jenny of course and this affair.
Brian: Oh that ? It’s just a phase she’s going through. Jenny will soon be back cooking my supper, fussing over Ruairi, sorting out the village website and putting up with the odd peccadillo. You mark my words.
Lilian: Well I wouldn’t be too sure, Brian. From what I hear, this Jo person could be just the one to sweep her off her feet.
Brian: But what can this woman possibly offer that I can’t ?
Lilian: Do you really need me to spell it out ? It’s such a lovely change for Jenny to have someone paying her real attention, especially since she has been pining for Home Farm for months. She’s now getting lots of attention, flattery and excitement.
Brian: But I can offer all of that if I make the effort.
Lilian: It’s too late now, I hear things are moving fast. Susan Carter certainly thinks so, so it must be true. And Jo may have one ace up her sleeve that you couldn’t possibly beat with a whole deck of stacked cards.
Brian: And what would that be ? I can’t believe Jenny could ever find anyone like me again.
Lilian: Well let’s hope not ! You’re really in trouble because those people you sold Home Farm to, and whom we have inexplicably never heard a peep from, have decided to move out and are looking for tenants.
(Ed. The last thing we needed were more boring, white, middle-class types in the show.)
Brian: And so ?
Lilian: So Jo is planning to take a lease on the place and Jenny is thinking of moving back in !
( loud thud as Brian hits the floor)
